What Happens in a Biblical Counseling Session?
Counseling sessions vary depending on the person(s) and reasons involved in the counseling process. In general, each session includes three elements:

  • Hope. In each session, counselors point to the hope found in Jesus Christ to face any problem. (Hebrews 4:14-16)
  • Change. In each session, counselors help the counselee set aside old ways of living or thinking and embrace new ways of living and thinking in light of the gospel of Jesus Christ. (Ephesians 4:20-24)
  • Practice. In each session, counselors instruct and admonish the counselee to be a doer of the Word and not a hearer only. (James 1:22-25)

Will There Be Homework?
Homework is a continuation of the counseling process between sessions. Counselors will assign homework such as Bible reading, Scripture memorization, book reading, journaling, and implementation of action steps. Counselors will work with counselees to identify a manageable amount of homework.
